ONLINE Study Group: Peripersonal Space

The term ‘peripersonal space’ (PPS) was first introduced in 1981 to define the space within an arm and leg’s length from the body that is mapped in structures of the brain called the putamen and tectum. This space is the interface between our bodies and our environment and plays an important role in our ability to find safety. When this space is engaged and online, it works with the electromagnetic heart field and enteric nervous system to create an integrated and flexible network to support the body’s response to its environment, its sense of self, and its connection to present time.

In this study group, we will explore the neurology of the PPS; learn the anatomy of the tectum, putamen, and multimodal neurons; discuss the impact of trauma on the PPS; and practice Ortho-Bionomy® techniques and principles to work with this area. This course is part of a larger course titled “Repairing Traumatic Injuries to the Biologic and Energetic Sense of Self” developed by Ursula Hofer.

This study group can stand alone, but is best paired with study groups on the Electromagnetic Field of the Heart (February 12) and the Enteric Nervous System (February 19).

THE NOT SO FINE PRINT

  • No practice partner is required for this course. Techniques will be shown and you may prefer practicing the techniques from the recording at a later date.

  • Credit can only be issued for students with cameras on for the duration of the class. No credit is issued for partial attendance without instructor permission.

  • A recording will be made available to all students within 24 hours of the live class. Students can download this recording for their personal use within 1 week of the class. The recording will not be available after this time.

  • A 15 minute break will occur about halfway through the class.

  • Please be in communication with your advisor if you are able to receive credit for online study groups. SOBI has policies regarding the number of courses available for credit and they are located on their website (https://www.ortho-bionomy.org).

  • Out of courtesy to the instructor and other students, please be mindful not to be walking, traveling in a vehicle, in your jujitsu class, or otherwise occupied with other tasks with your camera on. We are happy for you to tune in live during any of those activities, but without your camera or sound on. As a reminder, you cannot receive credit if your camera is off. In general, the best rule is to treat online courses like an in person one.

Purchase individually, or receive a discount when purchasing PPS (Feb. 5), Electromagnetic Field of the Heart (Feb. 12), and ENS (Feb. 19) as a package of 3.
